I grew up in an imperfect, but perfectly wonderful America where education was the great leveler, the great provider of equality and opportunity. That American educational system, although flawed, still lifted up more people to a higher level than in any nation the world has ever seen. Our teeming multitudes of educated masses propelled America to lead the world for most of the twentieth century. Our high level of education gave us great prosperity. With the wages of only one parent working, a typical family could own a home and two cars, and send two children through college without going into any debt other than the home mortgage. That reality exists no more.

Our once great educational system is broken. Despite being insanely over-priced, the results are defective. American students now rank 22nd among nations on math & science tests, down from ranking as No.1. What a shameful, what a disgusting decline! And we have a shortage of 3,000,000 math and science teachers.

We are going backwards: our literacy rate is worse than 100 years ago. At the time when science and technology are everything, fewer than half of Americans can do "read'n, 'rite'n and 'rithmetic" at the 10th grade level. With our failure, with your failure to provide equality and opportunity based on education, America is declining, and declining at an even faster rate each day. Try to buy a laptop computer, an iPod, or anything else, that is Made In America.
